DGA Forestry offer a comprehensive range of specialist forestry services to clients around the UK.
DGA Forestry aim to provide our clients with as a wide a range of services as possible, thereby reducing the costs for outside services. Many of the services we can provide are detailed below but we are always happy to discuss a client’s specific needs with them. Where required we engage specialists consultants to assist with the management of the clients woodlands and projects.
This is the heart of our business and essential to the creation of well established and maintained woodlands. We assess the work programmes required for each property and where required submit an annual report to the clients with forecasts of expenditure and income.
Supervision of Forestry Operations
Subject to client approval we would implement the agreed programme of work using suitably qualified and experienced contractors. DGA Forestry would draw up, implement and monitor contracts for the sale of timber, planting and all other management works within all types of woodland.
Long term forest planning is also essential to the successful management of woodlands. DGA Forestry have extensive experience in the production of forest management plans for a diverse range of clients. These can range in size from small scale woodlands to large commercial investments.
Alongside the production of ongoing plans as part of our management portfolio, DGA Forestry can also produce stand-alone plans for individual clients on a consultancy basis.
New Woodland Creation
DGA Forestry have had extensive experience in the establishment of new woodlands since the company was formed in 1972. We work with landowners who wish to invest in forestry, providing assistance during all stages of the process. We would assess the suitability of land for planting and design new woodland creation schemes to meet the requirements of the UK Forestry Standard, the grant scheme and, most importantly, the client’s objectives.
DGA Forestry can organise all aspects of the planning from dealing with statutory bodies; preparation of grant scheme applications and Environmental Statements, where required; to engaging and supervising consultants to carry out site surveys and reports on specialist topics, to ensure that all aspects of a new woodland creation project are efficiently and professionally managed.
DGA Forestry operate their own unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for forestry surveys. We are currently working towards gaining permission for aerial work from the CAA. This will provide us with state-of-the-art capability to undertake aerial survey work using our own UAV platform
We have full GIS mapping capability and are able to carry out all our clients mapping needs with no recourse to outside bodies. We operate ArcGIS, MapMaker GIS, AutoCAD and a wide range of other mapping and design programmes.
Forest Design and Landscape
We pride ourselves in designing sensitive and considerate planting schemes, which enhance the local landscape and create diverse habitats.
All our forest managers have undertaken the Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) Forest Design and Landscaping course; we work collaboratively in-house to ensure that work produced is of the highest quality using our survey and mapping capabilities. Where required we would engage the services of a specialist landscape architect.
Forestry Grant Schemes Applications and RPAS Registration
DGA Forestry assist our clients with all aspects of Forestry Grant Scheme applications and Rural Payment and Services (RPAS) on-line registration. We can handle the entire registration and application for our clients, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free process.
DGA Forestry have prepared contributions to numerous Environmental Statements (ES) for large and small scale projects located in forestry or woodlands. For new woodland creation projects DGA Forestry can manage the whole ES process for clients. All our ESs are produced entirely in-house, using our own staff, surveying and GIS mapping capabilities. DGA Forestry have also provided support and acted as an expert witness at Public Inquiries on forestry issues on behalf of clients.
Land Use Appraisals
Our specialist forestry knowledge allows us to provide a consultancy service to advise our clients on the most appropriate use of their land.
Planning and Architectural Services
We have a close working partnership with an architectural practice; together we can provide a full range of architectural and planning services to our clients.
This enables us not only to deal with all aspects of the planning process in-house – including buildings, roads and other matters requiring local authority consent – but also to assist and advise our clients on the management and maintenance of properties located within estates
More information can be found on our Planning and Architectural Services page.
DGA Forestry can help clients get the best cover for their forestry properties. We have negotiated a global insurance policy for our clients with Lycetts covering public liability; fire; storm and buildings insurance as required. Full details and a quote can be provided on request.
DGA Forestry operates a woodland certification scheme to UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS) criteria for their managed clients only, which provides a cost effective method of achieving woodland certification for all sizes of woodland.
DGA Forestry have no dependent relationship with any timber merchant or wood processor and are therefore able to offer our clients complete freedom of choice through regular standing sales and tenders to a wide range of timber merchants. We offer our clients complete flexibility on how their timber is marketed and would recommend entering into long term agreements where this is felt beneficial to the client.
Timber measurement and production forecasting
DGA Forestry can provide a full production forecasting service for our clients. We are able to carry out full timber surveys using the latest electronic measuring tools and computer software, which in turn assist with long term forest planning and timber sales.
Our qualified forest managers carry out full volume surveys; the collected data is processed in-house to produce accurate timber production forecasts.
Property Sales and Purchases
With over forty years of forestry experience to draw on, DGA Forestry are uniquely placed to advise our clients on all aspects of purchasing and selling forestry properties. We can identify opportunities and constraints, which could affect the value of a property, and can advise clients of properties suitable for purchase which meet their criteria and objectives.
We carry out valuations of forestry properties for clients, not only for sale or purchase, but also for probate or simply for internal purposes using our own computer programmes and models.
